Air suspension is not a new technology developed in recent years. Their basic technical schemes are similar, mainly including two parts: the shock absorber with compressed air inside and the shock absorber with variable damping.
Compared with traditional steel, air suspension has many advantages. The most important point is that the elastic coefficient of the spring, that is, the soft and hard of the spring can be automatically adjusted according to the needs. For example, when driving at high speed, the suspension can be hardened to improve the stability of the body. When driving at low speed for a long time, the control unit will think that it is going through bumpy roads, and the suspension can be softened to improve the shock absorption comfort.
In addition, the acceleration generated by the impact of the wheel on the ground is also one of the parameters considered in the automatic adjustment of the air spring. For example, when cornering at high speed, the air springs and shock absorbers of the outer wheels will automatically harden to reduce the roll of the body. During emergency braking, the electronic module will also strengthen the springs and shock absorbers of the front wheels to reduce the inertial roll of the body. Therefore, models equipped with air springs have higher handling limits and comfort than other vehicles.
The air suspension also incorporates the traditional chassis lifting technology. When driving at high speed, the height of the vehicle body automatically reduces, thus improving the ground contact performance, ensuring good high-speed driving stability and reducing wind resistance and fuel consumption. When passing the bumpy road slowly, the chassis will automatically rise to improve the passing performance. In addition, the air suspension system can automatically maintain the level height of the vehicle body. The height of the vehicle body can remain constant no matter whether the vehicle is unloaded or loaded. In this way, the spring travel of the air suspension will remain constant under any load, so that the shock absorption characteristics will not be affected basically. Therefore, the car body is easy to control even under full load. This is indeed a leap in platform technology.
