With continuous heavy rain weather in many places, please pay more attention to the vehicle condition while paying attention to your own safety. If you are driving for a long time or the axle is soaked in water, you should check and maintain it in time.
The semi-trailer axle passes through the ponding area for a short time, which has little impact on the axle components. However, after driving, you should go to the nearby maintenance station to check whether there is water, sand and gravel and other residues in the axle components. If the semi-trailer is immersed in water for a long time, and the water accumulation height exceeds the hub cap (subject to the horizontal surface or the trace line after the water recedes), the following inspection and treatment shall be carried out before the vehicle is used again:
1. Wheel end system
Open the wheel hub cover and check whether there is any trace of water ingress inside. If there is no trace, it indicates that the situation is minor. If there is any trace, further check whether the lubricating grease and bearing of the wheel hub system have any failure or damage.
2. Brake friction plate
After the brake friction plate is soaked, it is easy to accumulate sediment on the surface, which affects the braking capacity. It should be checked and washed with plenty of water before reuse.
3. Automatic adjusting arm
Mark the current clearance position of the self-adjusting arm first, and then increase the adjustment clearance. The vehicle presses the brake several times to see whether the clearance of the self-adjusting arm can return to the original marked position. If it can, it means that the self-adjusting arm operates normally.
4. Disc brake
For the disc brake, check whether there is water in the connection between the air chamber push rod and the brake caliper.
5. Brake chamber
The exhaust hole of the dual chamber air chamber is easy to enter water under the water surface, and the water and sand debris entering will lead to the blockage of the air path, which will lead to the braking failure of the trailer in serious cases. After immersion, it is required to go to the nearby maintenance point for inspection as soon as possible.
